Lod1 Heirarchy For Statics

I want to add a lod1 to a static model but can't find any info on doing so. When creating my lod1, do I also create a new cgfxShader for it? Do I only need to create the main geometry and the col0? Any help would be appreciated.

(Hopefully I'm not the last man on Earth still using Maya 6.0.1)

only lod0 needs the set of col meshes, you can delete nonvis_ and anything downwind of it from lod1

in most cases you'd use the same shader because the material would be the same and the UV's would be similar too, although less complex
